Chapter 4 Summary:
Chapter four starts off with Nick Carraway listing all the people who have attended Gatsby’s parties that summer. A list of the nations most rich and powerful. Gatsby decides to take nick out for lunch in Gatsby’s “extremely well-known” yellow car. As they drive into the city, Gatsby makes a surprisingly uncharacteristic gesture by telling Nick “God’s truth” about his past. Only, Gatsby’s story is highly inconceivable. As Gatsby’s car speeds through the valley of ashes he is pulled over by a police officer but is easily and without question let go. During lunch, Gatsby introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfshiem. Nick takes note of Gatsby's presence over the authorities and his relationship with Wolfshiem in which outlines that Gatsby has made some of his money from extremely shady businesses. After the lunch in New York, Gatsby sees Jordan Baker who finally confesses that Gatsby is in love with Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby and Daisy were in love while Gatsby was a lieutenant in the war. Since Gatsby was serving in the war, Daisy decided to marry Tom Buchanan, but after receiving a letter from Gatsby the night before her wedding, Daisy had to choose whom she was to marry. Jordan then explains that Gatsbys prominence in society has been an esteemed plan to win over his longing love, Daisy.
